Wednesday of the 4th week of Easter
Today the Church celebrates : St Beuno![]()
Saint Symeon the New Theologian : I who am the light have come into the world so that the one who believes in me might not dwell in darkness.
Acts of the Apostles 12,24-25.13,1-5.
But the word of God continued to spread and grow. After Barnabas and Saul completed their relief mission, they returned to Jerusalem, 6 taking with them John, who is called Mark. Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Symeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who was a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." Then, completing their fasting and prayer, they laid hands on them and sent them off. So they, sent forth by the holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there sailed to Cyprus. When they arrived in Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. They had John also as their assistant.
Psalms 67,2-3.5-6.8.
May God be gracious to us and bless us; may God's face shine upon us. Selah
So shall your rule be known upon the earth, your saving power among all the nations.
May the nations be glad and shout for joy; for you govern the peoples justly, you guide the nations upon the earth. Selah
May the peoples praise you, God; may all the peoples praise you!
May God bless us still; that the ends of the earth may revere our God.
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 12,44-50.
Jesus cried out and said, "Whoever believes in me believes not only in me but also in the one who sent me, and whoever sees me sees the one who sent me. I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness. And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them, I do not condemn him, for I did not come to condemn the world but to save the world. Whoever rejects me and does not accept my words has something to judge him: the word that I spoke, it will condemn him on the last day, because I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So what I say, I say as the Father told me."

Commentary of the day :
Saint Symeon the New Theologian (around 949-1022), Orthodox monk
Theological Discourse 3 (translated from the French - Prière mystique, Cerf 1979, p. 38)
I who am the light have come into the world so that the one who believes in me might not dwell in darkness.
God is light (1 Jn 1:5), an infinite and incomprehensible light. The Father is light, the Son is light, the Spirit is light; the three are one single light, simple, not made up of parts, outside of time, in an eternal identity of dignity and glory. Then, everything that comes from God is light and is distributed among us as coming from the light: the light of life, the light of immortality, light the source of life, light the living water, love, peace, truth, the door to the kingdom of heaven. The light of the Kingdom of heaven itself; the light of the nuptial chamber, the nuptial bed, paradise, the delights of paradise, the land of the meek, the crown of life, light the very garments of the saints. The Light of Christ Jesus, the savior and king of the universe, light the bread of his immaculate flesh, light the chalice of his precious blood, the light of his resurrection, the light of his face; light his hand, his finger, his mouth, the light of his eyes; light the Lord, his voice, as light from light. Light the Comforter, the pearl, the mustard seed, the true vine, the leaven, hope, faith: light!
