St John, the Evangelist

A reflection on today's Sacred Scripture:

"This is what we proclaim to you....
what we have seen with our own eyes...."

The church chooses this time of year to remind us of some wonderful and powerful facts about our faith. Today we celebrate St. John the Evangelist, the writer of the Gospel of St. John, and of three letters to the churches.

And St. John tells us that he saw this. With his own eyes he witnessed what he wrote about. This is powerful. We have a first hand account here of someone who not only saw, but ate with the risen Lord. We have the words of someone who spoke with God in the Flesh.

If ever doubts come upon you, if ever you are wondering about what you believe, turn here and listen to the words of one who saw Jesus Risen, spoke with Jesus, lived with Jesus, walked with Jesus, and preached Jesus and the Love of the tender heart of God.

As we talked about a passion for God, a growing awareness of his presence, and a desire to do whatever I can to increase that, I realised that the thing which cultivated this passion in me, was to read and tell stories of Jesus.

This blog provides Daily stories of Jesus - some straight from various translations of the gospels, I hope about once a week- a re-told story. I find that the more I hear stories of Jesus , and the more we hear them, the more I discover what it means for us to have a passion for Jesus in our lives, and an deeper involvement with him.

As I ponder the stories I post, I am finding more and more that things hit me a few days later. What better to occupy my mind than stories of Jesus.
