A reflection on today's Sacred Scripture:
Today we have a lovely set of readings. In the First Reading we are reminded how God knows best. In the course of our daily lives we may grow despondent and impatient with the events and circumstances that unfold around us. But we are called to trust that everything is going according to God's plan. So while certain actions may be required of us to better our circumstances, at a certain point we have to release control and recognise that we're ultimately in the love and protection of God who always has our best interest at heart and will NEVER let us down. We are never alone.
In today's Gospel, we're simply reminded of the gift of Jesus to the world--how God became man and emptied himself for the sake of mankind--Emmanuel--God with us. Let us comfort ourselves in this knowledge and reflect on the words of today's Responsorial Psalm:
'Do not forget the works of the Lord!'
