If you were in charge of making arrangements for Jesus' birth, what extras would you throw in? A fancy birthing room in a palace? A large public ceremony to celebrate? Gold plated birth announcements? This is God becoming flesh for our sake; surely the event is deserving of spectacular attention. But as the bible says, God's ways are not our ways. And what is highly esteemed among men is detestable in God's sight. God chose to give Jesus to poor parents who couldn't find even a decent hotel room. Instead He was born in a stable, among the smells of animal dung.

Since that time, many of the most powerful movements of God have begun in similar settings. God delights in birthing His powerful movements in places where only the humble will dwell.
