Matthew begins by listing the genealogy of Jesus Christ, calling him the “son of David, the son of Abraham.” Several prophecies in the Old Testament foretold of a coming Messiah who would be born in David's family line. The genealogy establishes Jesus as fitting that prediction.

Matthew then tells how Jesus, God's Son, managed to come to earth in human form: “His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.” (MT 1:18)

Who or what is the Holy Spirit? He is a Person, separate and distinct from Jesus and the Father, yet they are all three One. Back in Genesis, when God decided to create man, He talks to Himself, saying, “Let us make man…”

Us. All along, God has been more than one person, He is three in One, working in unison.

Jesus the Son left His Father and left the paradise of heaven to come to a wounded world.
